We talked about how beautiful it was to visit Sierra Nevada during its thaw at the beginning of Spring. But now we want to make an introduction to Sierra Nevada for those who want to visit it in Summer.
Contrary to what the thousands of visitors who come to Sierra Nevada in Winter think, Sierra Nevada has a lot to offer in summer.
The truth is that coming to our hotel in Summer and doing the routes that are done from here to the shelters, etc. are a great alternative to combat the heat.
What is Sierra Nevada?
Both those who visit us and the locals themselves praise our mountains. And we have to tell you
what Sierra Nevada is, because it is:
- Sierra Nevada is a space of high ecological and cultural value.
- Sierra Nevada is a National Park.
- It is a Biosphere Reserve.
- Natural Park.
Each of these conditions, and all of them together, make the richness of these lands one of the most valued in Andalusia. It is a place with its own identity, where the villages that, like Dílar, are part of these lands are lucky enough to share with visitors through routes and walks.
Sierra Nevada in Summer
One of the most popular things to do in Sierra Nevada in summer is to walk and approach the rivers that are born from the high peaks. In our case we are going to talk about the Dílar river. It is born at 3,000 meters of altitude, in the Lagunillos de la Virgen.
We recommend the walk seeing the small lagoons, pastures and borreguiles through which the water of snowfields and streams flows to form the channel of what will become the Dílar river, one of the most important in the Sierra Nevada Natural Area. And it is a short distance from our hotel.
Following the summer line of the area, in Pradollano, in the neighboring Monachil you will find the sled working and landscapes that remind us of Switzerland itself.
Visiting this area of Granada in summer has advantages:
We already told you something in our entry of Sierra Nevada and the thaw (When the blog is published we have to redirect this title), but here we list the best advantages.
1. The temperatures are ideal, even with heat waves like those experienced this summer, the altitude mitigates a lot.
2. The nights are cool, the altitude of the whole park makes the nights are sheet and cool.
3. Nature in the high peaks is in all its splendor.
4. Water is the protagonist of many moments.
5. Signposted and simple routes, others not so much, to enjoy the summer in a different way.
